Rock the Vote NZ Call for Candidates

Rock the Vote NZ is calling for passionate, committed and aware candidates to represent our communities in the upcoming Local Elections across New Zealand. If you share our vision for strong, sensible and steadfast local governance with a passion for serving the people, we encourage you to stand with us for the 2025 Local Body Elections and bring only the facts and truth to the stand. We will stand against corruption, complacency and downright incompetence and appoint the strongest candidates to stand for election to local Boards and Councils across the country.

Our starting line-up of policies include:

• Resist underhanded bureaucracy: We will take a principled stand against corruption and complacency within the corporate structure where identified. Councillors should have the right to oversee working groups and be involved in discussions wherever they feel necessary so that the people's voice may be heard.

• Clear Separation from National Politics: Councils will reclaim decision-making power from the Central Government and strive for decentralized governance. This includes restoring the right for councils to independently vote on matters such as fluoridation and other key issues.

• Local Decision Making: We will strengthen the voice of local communities by ensuring decisions are made locally, not dictated by central government. We will not accept “We are just doing what the Central Government is telling us” as an acceptable response to any policy changes or decisions.

• Only the Best will do: All positions and funds awarded to projects should be strictly merit based, ensuring the communities our people serve get the best value possible from their local boards.

• Transparency and Accountability: Push for open workshops that are accessible to the public and campaign for an open-data policy requiring councils and local boards to publish detailed financial records, contracts, and meeting minutes promptly and in an easily accessible manner online.

• Zero Rates Rises: We are firmly committed to halting rate increases for the next three years in every district. This ensures citizens under our governance can put more food on the table while councils take greater responsibility for budgeting responsibly and staying within their means.

• Equal Rights: We support equal rights for ALL New Zealanders and believe all New Zealanders should be treated equally and lawfully the same, regardless of ethnicity.
